Iron bath

Iron baths contain at least 0.3 mg of ferrous ion in carbon dioxide binding per liter. Iron (and arsenic) baths are used primarily for drinking cure. The amount of iron absorbed during the bath cure does not have a detectable effect on hematopoiesis. The iron bath is a local tissue astringent, skin irritant through its anti-inflammatory effects, which effect is further reinforced by the aluminum sulfate alum present in the iron bath.
