Electric stimulation treatment

Electric stimulation treatment means mainly the treatment of muscles innervated by the peripheral nervous system, i.e. treatment of the mostly intactly nerved but atrophied muscles (muscle exercises).Electric stimulation treatment (when suggested by a neurologist) may also play a role in treating the condition after the paralysis of the central nervous system. The treatment of peripherally damaged muscles is done using triangular or exponential pulses or wave packets. The pause interval between two pulses is the multiple of the duration of the pulse. Electric stimulation treatment is never done mechanically, but always in accordance with the current state of the muscle. At least two short periods of stimulation a day is recommended. Healthily nerved but atrophied muscles are stimulated with square pulses.Electric stimulation treatment must be complemented by physiotherapy. It is a quite beneficial complementary therapy e.g. in case of facial paralysis (with point electrode). The treatment often takes weeks or even months to complete. Electro diagnostic tests are advised.
